On February 1, 2025, the U.S. government imposed a 10% tariff increase on all Chinese exports, citing concerns over fentanyl. This unilateral action violates WTO rules, fails to address domestic U.S. issues, and harms normal China-U.S. trade relations.
In accordance with China’s Customs Tariff Law, Customs Law, Foreign Trade Law, and international legal principles—and with State Council approval—China will impose retaliatory tariffs on certain U.S. imports starting February 10, 2025:
• 15% additional tariff on coal and liquefied natural gas (see detailed product list).
• 10% additional tariff on crude oil, agricultural machinery, large-displacement vehicles, and pickup trucks (see detailed product list).
• The new tariffs apply on top of existing rates, with no exemptions for bonded or duty-free goods.
