On April 10, 2025, the U.S. government announced its decision to further increase its so-called "reciprocal tariffs" on Chinese exports to 125%. The U.S. imposition of exorbitantly high tariffs on Chinese goods constitutes a serious violation of international trade rules, defies fundamental economic principles and common sense, and represents nothing but unilateral bullying and coercion.
In accordance with the Customs Tariff Law of the People's Republic of China, the Customs Law of the People's Republic of China, the Foreign Trade Law of the People's Republic of China, other relevant laws and regulations, and the basic principles of international law, and upon approval by the State Council, China has decided to adjust additional tariff measures on imports originating from the United States, effective April 12, 2025. The relevant matters are hereby announced as follows:
The additional tariff rates specified in Announcement No. 5 [2025] of the Customs Tariff Commission, "Announcement on Adjusting Additional Tariff Measures for Imports Originating from the United States," shall be raised from 84% to 125%. Given that U.S. exports to China have already become commercially unviable at current tariff levels, should the U.S. impose further tariff increases on Chinese goods, China will not respond to such measures.
All other matters shall continue to be implemented in accordance with Announcement No. 4 [2025] of the Customs Tariff Commission, "Announcement on Imposing Additional Tariffs on Imports Originating from the United States.
